Former Kumho Series veteran closes team

AUSTRALIAN motorsport regular Jon McCorkindale has called it a day due to continued budget challenges.

McCorkindale was a regular in the Kumho Series/Super3 from late 2016 through to early 2021, making 53 race starts for a return of three wins.

The 32-year-old then stepped up to Super2, racing an ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport VF Commodore, which hit the market at the end of 2021.

From there, McCorkindale spent a season in the National Trans Am Series before a sponsorship shortfall saw him take refuge this year in Aussie Racing Cars.

McCorkindale indicated after last month’s Townsville round that he’d be done for the year, placing his 2018-built Camaro Aussie Racing Car for sale at $55,000 via my105.com.

The New South Welshman has since announced the car has sold.

“That’s all she wrote folks the family team will shut down after trying one last thing to keep it alive,” McCorkindale wrote via social media.

“We as a family would like to thank everyone that supported us over this time it’s been a hell of a ride and real privilege that very few get to do.

“And for me who knows anything can happen I guess.”
