FPV’s own Black Betty

MAKING its debut on the FPV stand at the 2011 Melbourne International Motor Show was a sinister, black concept – the first for the performance marque.

Ford Performance Vehicles General Manager at the time, the late Rod Barrett said, “taking our iconic FPV GT, we have put together a package of performance and design enhancements to demonstrate what could be done by FPV in the future. The black-on-black treatment looks spectacular and it really changes the look of the car, so I’ll be very interested to hear what FPV enthusiasts think.”

The one-off concept was powered by a Boss five-litre supercharged V8 engine, with a full stainless steel high-flow exhaust system exiting the rear with quad black tips.

On the outside, the black paint was matched with exterior features including bonnet bulge, rear wing, diffuser and side skirts to continue the aggressive appearance alongside its individual stance it carries unique GT badging.

Large brake ducts were included in the front fascia leading to the six-piston brakes, while at the rear four-piston calipers do the stopping. Wrapping the large disc rotors were 19” x 8” forged alloy rims at the front with width changing to 9.5” at the rear and Dunlop providing special SP Sportmaxx GT tyres.

Track-tuned suspension delivered the handling capabilities needed for the high-powered muscle car ensuring it was a weapon in the corners.

Inside the cabin, the black theme continued in terms of the leather and dash, which included the interior command centre. This concept featured the highest options available to FPV owners including a reversing camera and was built to display the maximum capability of the GT package.

Positive feedback followed and FPV released a limited edition run of 125 GT Blacks at $74,290 (this appears to be a bargain now!) with each carrying a special build number for authenticity.
