Grove calls out ‘serious’ aero parity problem

STEPHEN Grove has joined the chorus of Ford head honchos highlighting the parity issue in Supercars.

Grove Racing has been arguably the most reserved Blue Oval team when it comes to the parity debate – but after the Sunday in Darwin, its team owner unleashed.

Intriguingly, Grove almost exclusively circled aero and not engine performance as being at the heart of the trouble.

“Obviously, parity is not helping us,” he said.

“There is a serious parity issue with the aero of the cars that needs to be addressed.

“We just cannot get any life out of our rear tyres.

“But, beyond that, we need to regroup and do a better job. It was a bad weekend for us. We made too many mistakes in the cars and outside the cars.”

In communications released by Ford, Tickford Racing team principal Tim Edwards doubled down on the comments he made this evening to selected media.

“There is something wrong,” Edwards said.

“The parity keeps getting triggered constantly. It’s six or seven races now where we’ve hit the trigger.

“Once again, we were racing in the Mustang cup.

“The poor guys are driving the wheels off the cars and that’s not good for anyone.”

“There are some standout teams on the other side, because they have beaten Triple Eight, but they are only racing against two-thirds of the field.”

“The Mustang cup” was also a phrase used by Dick Johnson Racing team principal Ben Croke.

“It was a step forward for us, that’s for sure. We found ourselves in amongst the frontrunners in the Mustang cup,” said Croke.

There are three weeks before Round 6 of the season, the NTI Townsville 500.
