Grove staying positive amid Supercars slump

STEPHEN Grove is not hitting the panic button despite his team’s prolonged Repco Supercars Championship slump.

A mix of woes has seen the ever-ambitious Grove Racing outfit slide from third to 10th in the 2023 teams’ championship.

It’s a long way from where they’d like to be, the Ford squad not being short on resources or expertise – its brains trust includes big names such as veteran engineer Alistair McVean, technical director Grant McPherson and team principal David Cauchi.

While speculation swirls around his 2024 driver line-up, Grove is determined to get the current season back on-track.

“For us, you have just got to keep working through it,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“If you use the analogy of business, you can normally fix a business up in six or 12 months.

“At this level, it’s two or three years, is the program that you need to have in place – hence why we have got the junior program.

“We started really strong. We’ve had some issues with our quali, we haven’t qualified well and then you sort of get caught in the pack. We’ve had a couple of car failures. Parity is not helping us.

“But above all that, we’re still not the best Ford team, so we’re not doing a good enough job. But we’re learning as we go and we’re learning a lot.

“We’ll be back; you have just got to stay positive and keep persisting and we’ll turn it around.”

David Reynolds and Matt Payne enter this weekend’s OTR SuperSprint holding 16th and 19th in the drivers’ standings, respectively.

Reynolds is expected to switch to Team 18 for 2024.
