Hanson, Murray savour Camaro chance

COOPER Murray and Jay Hanson have relished a big day in their respective careers, completing an Erebus Motorsport Gen3 evaluation.

The duo had been set to do so on May 31 before getting washed out, forcing a postponement until today.

That came in the #9 Coca-Cola Camaro, with main game drivers Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki plus engineers Tom Moore and George Commins on-hand at Winton.

“This was my first time driving a Gen3 car so it was amazing to get some laps under my belt and see how I go in one,” said Murray, who is third in the Super2 standings.

“These opportunities are vital for my career as it gets me in front of a Supercars team and allows me to showcase what I can do and how I operate.

“Working with Will, Brodie and their engineers was great, there’s no shortage of knowledge and experience in this team. It was definitely a big learning day.”

TCR Australia race winner Hanson echoed those sentiments.

“I’m so grateful to get the experience of a full day of Gen3 running because these are the steps I need to take to end up in the main game,” he said.

“The Erebus Camaro was a completely different ball game from my Super2 car.

“From the vision, to the sound, to the way you drive the car, it was completely different experience.

“It was cool to see how the Erebus engineers structure their programs for tests like today and it’s been a real eye-opener into what the main game consists of.”

Erebus will run a full two-car test tomorrow at Winton, involving all four members of its enduro driver roster (Brown, Kostecki, Jack Perkins and David Russell).
