Kelly, Randle lap up Castrol Mustang drift derby

RICK Kelly and Thomas Randle have tried their hand at drifting in a special Castrol Ford Mustang.

Randle is Castrol’s current Supercars driver, having taken over the mantle from two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Kelly who retired at the end of 2020.

The duo’s recent drift outing came in New Zealand aboard the car of Daniel ‘Fanga Dan’ Woolhouse, with the four-time Repco D1NZ champion taking them under his wing.

“That is so much fun,” said Kelly.

“You have to get used to how quick it goes around. It’s easy when Fanga Dan is driving, but harder in the driver’s seat!

“It’s a lot of fun. It’s hard to get it into a nice slide but not go too far.”

Randle added: “I think it’s a safe bet that I won’t be drifting any time soon!

“It’s got a lot of power and it’s a real art what these guys do on the drifting track. I’m very impressed.”

Randle will continue to carry Castrol backing next year as part of a streamlined two-car Tickford Racing squad.
