BRODIE Kostecki is confident he will be towards the pointy end of the field in his return to the Repco Supercars Championship.
The reigning champion is at Winton today completing his first laps in a Supercar this year, following the end of his stalemate with Erebus Motorsport.
After sitting out the first two rounds of the season, Kostecki is set to rejoin the field for the Taupō round later this month.
“It’s just all about trying to find my feet again,” Kostecki said during the morning. “I guess it’s like riding a bike. You have a few wobbles and then you find your feet.
“I’m still a little bit behind the car, so I have a few small things to work on for the rest of the day. We haven’t quite got to lunchtime yet but yeah, quite happy with the day so far.
“I’ve got a little bit of catching up to do but I’m not too bothered.
“I’ve been working very closely with George (Commins, his race engineer) and we spent the last three days together, and I’ve been out at Norwell a fair bit since the announcement just trying to play catch up.”
On his hopes for Taupō, Kostecki added: “Anything’s possible.
“I’ve so far had a pretty good day behind the wheel. We’ll just focus on ourselves like how we did last year and see how we end up.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll be up towards the front.”
The day marks a full team test day for Erebus, which also has Jack Le Brocq in action aboard its #9 Camaro.
Kostecki’s outing is the first in this particular Erebus chassis, built new for 2024 to replace the car he drove to last year’s championship success which has been retired by the team.
It also marks his first outing carrying the champion’s #1.
“It’s great to see a lot of the boys in the team and to be able to run the #1 and show all the hard work that they put in last year, and see all their smiles on their faces has been pretty cool,” he said.
