REPCO Supercars Championship leader Brodie Kostecki says Erebus Motorsport needs to be proactive to stay at the front of the field.
A third of the way through the 2023 season, Erebus Motorsport not only leads the teams’ championship but is running one-two in the drivers’ standings, with Kostecki 87 points up on teammate Will Brown.
It’s been a season of firsts for Erebus – including now trying to manage a title challenge.
Several rival teams will go testing next week as the pitlane strives to come to grips with the new-for-2023 Gen3 machinery.
The likes of Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United and Brad Jones Racing will run full test days on May 31 at Winton Motor Raceway, while Triple Eight, Dick Johnson Racing, Matt Stone Racing and PremiAir Racing will head to Queensland Raceway the following day.
Erebus, however, is undecided at this stage on exactly when it will use its penultimate test.
Either way, Kostecki says making the most of its next test will be vital in helping Erebus maintain its form.
“We have got a test day coming up I’m pretty sure so we’ll get to try a few things,” he said.
“Obviously to stay ahead of the other guys we’re going to have to make sure we keep trying things and try to develop the cars as much as we can.”
Added Brown: “You can always improve with these cars.
“You learn something new all the time with them… so we’ll build on it. There’s always something to do at a test day, but I’m not sure when we’re testing.”
The duo will join Erebus CEO Barry Ryan, engineer George Commins and Kostecki’s manager Nathan Cayzer in attending next weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series round at World Wide Technology Raceway in St Louis.
They’ll do so as guests of Richard Childress Racing, with whom Erebus has forged a connection.
