Manufacturer switch for Grove Racing in GT3

STEPHEN Grove and his GT3 team have ended their lengthy relationship with Porsche and aligned with a rival marque ahead of 2024.

Grove Racing will debut a brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT3 at next month’s Dubai 24 Hour on January 12-14, before backing up for the Abu Dhabi 6 Hour the following weekend.

“I’ve done all my racing in Porsches… now we’re in the Merc family,” Grove told V8 Sleuth.

“The interesting part is I have to left-foot brake now, so I have to go from years of right-foot braking.”

V8 Sleuth understands the Groves also explored linking with Aston Martin before choosing Mercedes.

The team’s last race with Porsche came a fortnight ago in the Gulf 12 Hours, in which Grove Sr crashed out after an ABS malfunction.

That event did at least offer the chance to ingrain Grove Supercars recruit Richie Stanaway into the fold, with the 2023 Bathurst 1000 winner part of a three-pronged roster at Yas Marina alongside Stephen and Brenton Grove.

“Richie is first-class, there’s no question about that; he knows how to drive a race car fast and his feedback is really, really good,” was Stephen Grove’s post-event assessment.

Grove Racing’s driver line-up for the 2024 Dubai 24 Hour and Abu Dhabi 6 Hour is yet to be confirmed.
