SUPERCARS has swung a change to its minimum tyre pressure rules for next month’s Darwin Triple Crown.
For Hidden Valley, there will be a lower minimum pressure of 15psi in place – compared to the usual 17psi.
UPDATE: It has since been announced that the lower minimum tyre pressure will also be in place at the Perth and Townsville rounds.
That change is expected to facilitate better drive for the Gen3 Mustangs and Camaros, at a circuit where tyre loads aren’t overly high.
Dunlop will bring its super soft compound tyres to Darwin, as was the case last year.

Also telling in the Supplementary Regulations distributed for Round 5 of the season is that teams will now be permitted to order an additional eight new hard tyres “for each car, only for the purpose of testing”.
That is significant given there’s currently no further events this season listed as being run on the hard tyre.
The takeaway? It is the latest indication that Supercars will switch to using the hard tyre at the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000.
Last year marked the first Great Race to be run on the soft control tyre, something which was blamed for a dour affair.
Supercars trialled the hard compound in Gen3 competition at the Mountain via the 2024 Bathurst 500 in February.
Supercars general manager of motorsport Tim Edwards confirmed recently to the Motorsport News Podcast that a decision had been made on what tyre will be used this October at Mount Panorama, but declined to specify.
Next up for the Repco Supercars Championship is the annual sojourn west to Wanneroo Raceway for the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint on May 17-19.
