SUPERCARS star Chaz Mostert surprised third-generation racer Aaron Seton by throwing his support behind the youngster’s Super2 Series campaign.

Mostert’s name is one of 22 on the bootlid of the #30 Gomersall Motorsport Commodore, having signed up online to Seton’s recently launched $300 membership program.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver has a long connection to the Seton family, including being mentored by Aaron’s father Glenn during the early stages of his own time in Super2.

“I’ve known Aaron for a long time. I remember when he started karting and Glenn was there pushing his kart around,” Mostert told V8 Sleuth.

“I watched Aaron become a good young driver in karting and follow in his father’s footsteps to make it to Supercars.

“Aaron is one of those kids who has worked hard, probably harder than anyone else I’ve ever seen, trying to raise funds and get sponsors and keep the dream alive of trying to get to Supercars.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Aaron and for Glenn, he’s one of my heroes. What I learned from Glenn very early days was amazing and I still use a lot of those tools today.

“When I saw it come up that you could become a member of Aaron I had to jump at the chance because I love their family and he’s a good kid as well.

“I think it’s a bit of a hoot that I’ve got my name on a DVS (Super2) car as well, so I feel the love.”

Mostert signed up to Seton’s membership program online, surprising the 24-year-old as he embarks on his third Super2 season.

“I was a bit shocked to be honest when I first saw his name come through. I sent him a message saying thank you for the support,” Seton told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s a very cool thing for Chaz to do. We’ve had a lot of tie-ups between families over the years, we ran karts at similar times, I was in the younger categories and he was in the juniors.

“We’ve always kept in contact, so it’s pretty special to have Chaz riding with me this year on my car.

“(The membership program) is something a little bit different to help build the budget for the Super2 Series this year.

“I’ve got a lot of people who have followed me over the years who have jumped onboard to help out and be a part of the program.

“We’ve had more sign up in the last couple of days as well, it was a shame we didn’t have time to get the stickers printed to get them on this weekend, we had a cut-off of Wednesday lunchtime.

“But I think we’re up to 34 now and there’s 22 names on there at the moment so it’s very exciting and I’m aiming for 100 by the end of the year, we’ll see how it all progress.”

Along with having their name on the car, Aaron Seton Racing members receive a variety of other benefits including pit tours, a meet and greet with Aaron, the chance to win a hot lap and a free hat.

“I’m keen to do the pit tour, there’s always something new you can learn, I’ve just got to find the time in my schedule to get over there,” smiled Mostert.

“Obviously, Walkinshaw has got a couple of DVS (Super2) cars too so I’ve got plenty of options to go for in the Development Series this weekend!”

Seton endured a tough start to his 2023 season in Newcastle with a crash in Practice 1 on Friday, before qualifying 14th for the opening race of the weekend.
