Van Gisbergen’s tribute to late mother

SHANE van Gisbergen has revealed he paid tribute to his late mother by running her surname on his Camaro at Talladega and Dover.

Karen Wallace passed away on April 15, aged 64. Per the New Zealand Herald, a service celebrating her life was held last Tuesday.

“Been a pretty tough couple of weeks here with my Mum passing back home in NZ,” van Gisbergen wrote on social media.

“Thanks to my teams for letting me run her last name on my door the past couple of weekends.”

Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Supercars crew also wore black arm bands on the Saturday of the Taupō Super400 in honour of Wallace.

Aboard his regular #97 entry, Van Gisbergen placed 22nd and 18th in the respective NASCAR Xfinity Series races at Talladega and Dover.

He also made his oval debut at Cup Series level at the former, winding up 28th.

The Xfinity Series will not race this coming weekend at Kansas Speedway, where van Gisbergen’s former Supercars rival Cam Waters will make his second NASCAR Truck Series start.
