Murphy nails maiden Australian Porsche win

THE son of Bathurst legend Greg Murphy has broken through on the Supercars undercard at the Tasmania SuperSprint.

Contesting his first season in Australia, Ronan Murphy today took victory for Sonic Motor Racing Services in the third and final Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge race at Symmons Plains.

It was a superb drive aboard the #77 Muscle Car Warehouse entry, Murphy charging to the front and driving away from the field across the 40-lap mini-enduro.

All told, Murphy sealed his first win in the category with a buffer of 4.0204s in hand over Lachlan Bloxsom.

It was impressive Grove Racing junior Oscar Targett who was ultimately classified second though, courtesy of a five-second time penalty for Bloxsom which dropped him to sixth.

Having finished second and fourth in the Saturday races, Murphy ended up second for the round, seven points behind Marco Giltrap.

Murphy Sr famously won the Bathurst 1000 on four occasions, and made a one-off Great Race return last year as part of a Boost Mobile wildcard with Richie Stanaway.
