A NEW grandstand has been added and more tickets released for the Repco Supercars Championship’s maiden visit to Taupo Motorsport Park in April.
Taupo will take over the baton from Pukekohe, which last hosted Supercars in 2022 before closing to motorsport, as the annual New Zealand round.
With Supercars reporting “exceptional” demand, it has announced the build of a grandstand at Turn 13 as well as further general admission tickets and a new corporate facility.
The latter will be called the Taupo Lounge and be located at Turn 9.
“With just 60 days to go until our debut in Taupō, we are incredibly excited about our return to New Zealand,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard.
“This announcement today that we are able to install another grandstand is because of the demand from fans who are counting down the days until our debut at this amazing circuit in one of the most scenic parts of the world we have ever raced.”
Taupo District Mayor David Trewavas voiced his excitement around the interest in the April 19-21 event.
“It is always wonderful to see all the visitors to the district every summer and we can’t wait to see it pumping again during Supercars weekend,” he said.
“We are so privileged to be hosting such a popular event and accommodation throughout the district is filling quickly.
“The increased grandstand seating and venue capacity due to the unprecedented demand shows the Taupō District is the place to be this April. The economic boost this will provide to our local economy cannot be underestimated.
“We are supportive of Supercars working with the commercial and private accommodation sectors to ensure we can squeeze everyone in, along with increasing self-contained accommodation locations. We’re excited to see our regional neighbours benefit from the event too.”
