Ojeda scores Erebus call-up

JAYDEN Ojeda is set for an Erebus Motorsport evaluation with the possible carrot of a 2024 Repco Supercars Championship co-drive.

V8 Sleuth has learnt the four-time Bathurst 1000 starter will turn laps for Erebus at Winton Motor Raceway in the next 36 hours, with a view to further opportunities.

Erebus is today shaking down its two brand-new Gen3 Camaros, having parked both of the cars involved in its 2023 championship double (the #9 due to crash damage, the title-winning #99 to be preserved).

Both 2024-built cars will then take part in a full test day tomorrow.

An apparent split between Brodie Kostecki and Erebus – although the 2023 champion’s absence has thus far only been officially confirmed for Round 1 – has opened up a vacancy which other drivers have pounced on.

Todd Hazelwood has been elevated from #9 co-driver (with Jack Le Brocq) to #99 primary driver for at least this month’s Thrifty Bathurst 500.

With David Russell also on the books for the Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000, one enduro spot remains potentially up for grabs and Ojeda is the favourite to snatch it.

Super3 runner-up to Broc Feeney in 2019, Ojeda was a regular podium placer during two seasons in Super2 before scoring a 2022 main game wildcard campaign with Walkinshaw Andretti United.

But his Supercars progression has stalled thereafter, having to again settle for a Matt Stone Racing co-drive last year and once more missing out on a full-time seat for ’24.

The 24-year-old’s stocks did rise last year though, taking victory in the Bathurst 6 Hour, a race win in GT World Challenge Australia, a top 10 Bathurst 1000 result with Le Brocq, and earning an overseas GT3 opportunity.
