Erebus buoyed by record build of new Gen3 chassis

EREBUS Motorsport will kickstart its Supercars championship defence armed with two brand-new Gen3 Camaros after completing an off-season build in “record time”.

As revealed by V8 Sleuth, Erebus had deemed the ex-Will Brown #9 Chevrolet crashed in Adelaide to effectively be a write-off – something which complicated plans to park Brodie Kostecki’s championship-winning car.

The team pressed on with preserving the #99, however, getting to work on its partially built spare from 2023 and assembling a new chassis altogether in the summer break.

That will give both Kostecki and recruit Jack Le Brocq pristine equipment in which to launch their season at next month’s Winton test followed by Round 1 at Mount Panorama.

“We built a new chassis in record time over Christmas,” Erebus CEO Barry Ryan told V8 Sleuth.

“A few of the guys, particularly (fabricator) James White in Mount Gambier, worked really hard for two or three weeks and some of the boys flew over to help him.

“It’s been a massive team effort to make sure we had a second new chassis sitting there before everybody got back to work to build up two new cars.”

Elaborating on the timeframe for that build, Ryan said: “From nothing to painted in just under three weeks.”

IT’S BACK: Kostecki to run #1

Erebus at one stage last year considered running a main game wildcard, and that’s not out of the question for 2024 either.

“We’d really love to get Kyle Busch or someone like that over here to do Adelaide after the NASCAR season has finished,” said Ryan.

Erebus is still to announce Le Brocq’s enduro co-driver – widely expected to be Todd Hazelwood – and the exact composition of its Dunlop Series roster.

David Russell will co-drive with Kostecki for the fourth successive enduro season.
