Parts recalled in wake of Bathurst wheel loss

SUPERCARS has recalled a batch of front wheel spindles following an investigation into Cam Waters’ lost wheel at the Thrifty Bathurst 500.

The #6 Tickford Racing Mustang shed its left-front wheel seven laps from the finish of the Saturday race at Mount Panorama while on the run up the hill.

A broken left-front spindle was identified as the cause, with the failure almost identical to one experienced by Erebus at a post-Sandown 500 ride day last year.

A subsequent investigation by Supercars Technical department has prompted the category to recall a particular batch of front spindles – which are made by an outside contractor and supplied to teams – ahead of the upcoming ITM Taupō Super400.
