Peter Brock Trophy visits McLaughlin in USA

FORMER Ford Supercars star Scott McLaughlin has been reunited with the Peter Brock Trophy.

The coveted silverware was loaned from Triple Eight Race Engineering, who are the most recent Bathurst 1000 winners courtesy of Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander’s triumph last October.

The trophy was on display at the recent Tasmania SuperSprint at Symmons Plains, where fans were able to get an up-close look during a pre-event signing session.

From there, it was sent more than 15,000km across to Detroit in the United States – the furthest the trophy has ever been from Australia – where McLaughlin was racing in IndyCar on the weekend.

McLaughlin conquered Mount Panorama in 2019 with Alex Premat for DJR Team Penske, representing the Blue Oval’s most recent Great Race victory.

The New Zealander made his ninth and final start at the Mountain the following year, clinching his third straight championship, before heading to the US to become a Penske IndyCar full-timer.

McLaughlin is now a four-time IndyCar race winner; he finished seventh this morning (AEST) in the inaugural race on the new downtown Detroit street course.

The Peter Brock Trophy will now be sent to Darwin as part of the Supercars pre-event festivities at Hidden Valley next week.
