Porsche Penske star nearing first Supercars laps

PORSCHE Penske Motorsport star Kevin Estre is now just days away from his first taste of a Supercar.

The 34-year-old Frenchman will complete an evaluation day at Winton Motor Raceway on September 4, in preparation for his Repco Supercars Championship debut with Grove Racing.

It’s now been confirmed Estre will partner Matt Payne in the #19 Penrite Mustang at the Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000.

“Really pleased to share the car with Matt,” said Estre.

“He’s a talented young driver and has showed his speed many times in his career already.

“He’s a rookie in Supercars but I’m sure that he’s going to help me a lot to be on pace as soon as possible. I can’t wait to be racing with the whole team.”

Estre is rated seriously highly, and Grove Racing team principal David Cauchi is excited to see what the world pro can bring to the table.

“It’s fantastic for us, someone of his experience, professionalism and is fast at everything he drives,” Cauchi told V8 Sleuth.

“He is really experienced in terms of endurance racing as well, so I just think he is going to help the team.

“We’re growing, we’re learning and developing, so to bring in some experience like that from a complete separate world to Supercars is really good for us.”

September 4 shapes as a big day in Supercars, with Simona De Silvestro scheduled to complete her first laps with Dick Johnson Racing (at Queensland Raceway) and the Blanchard Racing Team set for its maiden wildcard test (at Winton).
