A NEW book is set to be released to commemorate Dick Johnson Racing becoming the first team in Australian Touring Car/Supercars Championship history to post its 1000th championship race start.
The 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 will mark the team’s millennial milestone within the ATCC/Supercars Championship, dating back to the team’s first appearance at Symmons Plains for the opening round of the 1981 season.
The book, titled Dick Johnson Racing: The First to 1000 with a provisional release date of mid-2023, features Hall of Fame racing legend and team founder Dick Johnson, with John Smailes, looking back at the history of the team and the journey from 1981 to 2022 across 1000 championship races.
Broken down into a year-by-year format featuring a large range of images and statistics, Johnson provides his personal recollection of each year with many highs, some lows and incredible anecdotes and insights that only he can provide, backed up with countless hours of exceptional research and interviews by Smailes.
Interspersed throughout the book will be a variety of contributions from star drivers and significant figures from the history of DJR along with a dedicated Bathurst 1000 chapter covering the years the Great Race wasn’t counted as part of the ATCC/Supercars Championship.
Coming in an exclusive hardcover limited edition print run, published by Authentic Collectables, each copy of this book will be individually numbered and signed by Dick Johnson AM and Dr Ryan Story AM making this book an officially endorsed collectors item.
Currently estimated at 300 pages, and with additional exciting features of this book set to be announced in due course, this is going to be a must have for fans of Dick Johnson and his legendary team.
