Rothmans-inspired livery for Wood Porsche

DALE Wood will bring back to life the iconic Rothmans-style livery on his Porsche at Albert Park today.

The veteran Supercars co-driver is donning a blue-and-white design reminiscent of the Porsche 956 and 962 models which dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1980s, not to mention Rothmans’ later involvement with the Williams Formula 1 team.

The Wood/Carrera Cup effort comes in celebration of Porsche Centre Brighton’s launch of a motorsport division.

“The car is really striking and it probably fits perfectly in the F1 audience for this weekend,” said Wood.

“We have also got a show car they have done up exactly the same and I think everybody can relate to that in some way, the history with Porsche and Rothmans.”

Wood is back for another season with Earl Bamber Motorsport, which is also running New Zealand rising star Callum Hedge and recruit David Russell.

“Callum is a bit of a future star, he is definitely someone that when he puts it all together he is going to be a really fast young kid and he is doing some really good stuff over in the States,” he said.

“And then you have got Dave who is like myself, has done as much racing as me and has also got a pretty good co-drive so we’re probably from a similar paddock there.

“With those two guys, it’s going to keep me on my toes.”

Russell has re-signed as an Erebus Motorsport co-driver alongside Brodie Kostecki, while Wood is tipped to continue with Brad Jones Racing into the 2023 Supercars endurance season.

The new Carrera Cup campaign kicks off at Albert Park, with practice, qualifying and the first race unfolding today.

“I love the fact that we’ve got the likes of a Coca-Cola car in the field and now you have got the Supercheap car, like it’s great for the category to have these big brands because I really do believe in it,” he added.

“I think it’s the best support category in Australia in terms of the calendar that it runs on and what it has got to offer so I think there’s heaps of things that are really positive.”
