FIFTEEN Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro Supercars made their first trip to Mount Panorama this week to compete in the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Another has travelled to the fabled circuit for the fourth time, although isn’t part of the racing action.
SPOTTER GUIDE: 2023 Repco Bathurst 1000 car-by-car
Supercars’ Gen3 Camaro prototype car is on display wearing a special 60th anniversary Repco Bathurst 1000 livery.
It is the car that was built in 2021 alongside a Ford Mustang and used for initial Gen3 testing, beginning with promotional laps at that December’s Great Race.
It was also on track during dedicated sessions for the Gen3 prototypes at last year’s Bathurst 1000, where its pilots included four-time winner Greg Murphy.
Shane van Gisbergen lapped the track in the car at the Bathurst 12 Hour in February, where it was driven alongside a Red Bull Formula 1 car and presented in the energy drink’s colours.
The prototype Camaro was subsequently re-wrapped in Coca-Cola livery for Erebus Motorsport’s 2023 season launch on the Gold Coast while the team’s race cars were still being completed.
It was returned to its Chevrolet hues for aerodynamic testing in March, before donning Repco colours and embarking on the ‘Peter Brock Trophy Tour’ during recent weeks.
That included being on display at the Sandown 500 and now the Bathurst 1000, where Repco has a major presence as the event’s major sponsor.
Supercars also retains ownership of the Ford Mustang prototype, which lives at its technical centre on the Gold Coast.
