Sold! Bathurst-winning Holden changes hands

THE car which powered Walkinshaw Andretti United to victory in the 2021 Repco Bathurst 1000 has been sold, V8 Sleuth can reveal.

It was in chassis WR 026 that Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth combined to win the Great Race.

By that point it had already been purchased at auction by Andre Morse – the father of Super2 driver Zane – for a reported $610,000.

WAU continued using the car, the last Commodore built by the formerly known Holden Racing Team, until the end of the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship before switching to Ford Gen3 Mustangs this season.

Morse had retained possession of the ZB, while fielding his son in an ex-Cam Waters/Tickford Racing Gen2 Mustang in the 2023 Dunlop Super2 Series.

The 2021 Bathurst-winning Holden had at one stage been in the sights of McLaren Racing CEO and WAU director Zak Brown, but he and the Morses never quite reached an agreement.

WR 026 was listed via Lloyds Auctions earlier this year and then on my105.com.

While the new owner’s identity is being kept private, Morse confirmed the car will remain Down Under.

“It is staying in Australia which was our main priority,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“We didn’t want the car going overseas like most cars are, so it has found a great home here in Australia.”

Morse’s AIM Motorsport outfit has run two cars in the Dunlop Series this year, with his son in Super2 and Ryan Gilroy in Super3.

It was a heartbreaking Bathurst for AIM, Zane Morse retiring late while in line for a maiden victory, and Gilroy ruled out due to concussion after a practice crash.
