Super2 graduate’s dismay at Adelaide swansong

MATT Stone Racing recruit Cameron Hill has rued the worst possible finish to an otherwise successful sole Super2 season.

Hill signed with Triple Eight Race Engineering for his maiden Super2 campaign, having won the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia title.

While a race win proved elusive, the Canberran made enough of an impression to convince MSR he’s ready for a shot at the main game next year in a Gen3 Camaro.

Entering the Adelaide decider last weekend, Hill had been an outside shot at the title; however his season ended early after coming off second-best in a collision with the Turn 8 wall early in the Sunday race.

Teammate Declan Fraser meanwhile went on to secure the crown in style.

“That’s the Super2 season done for 2022,” said Hill.

“Unfortunately, it finished in the worst circumstances for me, I got a bit loose at Turn 8 and hit the concrete for my first DNF of the season.

“It’s a bit of a shame to finish like that, but it’s been a great year and I’ve learnt a hell of a lot.

“It’s been a year of ups and downs. We’ve been on the podium a few times, a few incidents along the way, which hurt our championship.

“A big shoutout to the team at Triple Eight Race Engineering, it was a pleasure to drive for them.”

One of two rookies on the 2023 grid – the other being Matt Payne of Grove Racing – Hill will be MSR teammates with Jack Le Brocq.

“I’m definitely keen to be making the step up to the main game next year with Matt Stone Racing,” he added.

“I feel like what I’ve learnt this year will hold me in good stead and hopefully we can kick off the year with a good result in Newcastle.”
