NEW Zealand Supercars hero Greg Murphy will once more be in an official capacity at the Repco Bathurst 1000 – but this time it won’t be behind the wheel.
Rather, Murphy has been confirmed to return to the Great Race as part of the Supercars broadcast team, as well as the Sandown 500 in the lead-up.
Murphy is back in the Supercars paddock this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, where son Ronan is competing in Porsche Sprint Challenge.
The father-son duo yesterday took part in a special passenger hot lap session, Ronan taking Greg for a spin in his Porsche before they swapped places, with the four-time Bathurst 1000 winner steering an Erebus Motorsport Gen3 Camaro.
It was with Erebus that Murphy made a wildcard comeback last year at Bathurst, placing 11th alongside Richie Stanaway.
“Fans love Murph and we will have him back in the thick of the action as part of the broadcast team for this year’s endurance events,” said Supercars head of broadcast David Tunnicliffe.
“He’s a great talent and will be there to ensure fans know exactly what is going on in and outside team garages during two of the most important race weekends of the year.”
The Sandown 500 will run across September 15-17, and the Bathurst 1000 on October 5-8.
