THE electric Ford SuperVan has become the fastest closed-top vehicle ever to lap Bathurst’s Mount Panorama Circuit.
Driven by Romain Dumas, the van clocked 1:56.7647s during what was scheduled to be its final track outing out of the two-weekend Bathurst SuperFest.
That left it tantalisingly shy of the 1:56.6054s recorded by Jules Gounon aboard an unrestricted Mercedes-AMG GT3 last weekend.
Not to be outdone, the SuperVan was given one last blast around the Mountain immediately after the Supercars Top 10 Shootout.
The result was a 1:56.28s, giving the 2000-horsepower machine the record.
That came despite the Supercars session proving that warmer track conditions had in fact left the track slower than during the SuperVan’s run earlier in the day.
The SuperVan’s Australian tour will now take in the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival (March 16-17) and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix (March 21-24).
