Sydney to host biggest ever Australian TCR field

TEN different nationalities will be represented in a 24-car TCR field at this weekend’s Race Sydney event.

In the biggest ever grid for a TCR event Down Under, the round will be crucial to the title races in both the Australian and World Tour series.

In addition to the nine-pronged World Tour fleet, there will be category debuts for Will Harris – the twin brother of race winner Brad – and Frenchman Jimmy Clairet in the Peugeot raced by Clay Richards at Sandown.

Those continuing their quest for the inaugural World Tour crown this Friday and Saturday night are headed by frontrunners Norbert Michelisz (Hungary) and Yann Ehrlacher (France).

As for the TCR Australia component, it’s Hyundai duo Bailey Sweeny and Josh Buchan duking it out at the pointy end of the standings; 30 points separate the pair heading into Sydney Motorsport Park.

The Bathurst International (November 10-12) will act as the 2023 Australian decider, and the penultimate round of the TCR World Tour.

UPDATE: Michael Clemente has been forced to withdraw from Race Sydney on budget grounds
