TCR podium-getter’s move to rediscover racing love

KODY Garland will join the 2024 Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series on a full-time basis in a bid to re-spark his passion for motorsport.

Garland is coming off two painful seasons in Garry Rogers Motorsport’s TCR Australia program, his 2022 campaign having been in a somewhat uncompetitive Renault Megane and last year’s switch to Peugeot failing to eliminate issues.

That period appears to have taken its toll on the young gun – and the solution he’s come up with is a switch to Aussie Racing Cars.

“We’ve come to the realisation this year that we go motor racing to have fun and we want to enjoy it,” said Garland, who has S5000 experience and raced in the opening two Aussie Racing Cars rounds of 2023.

“I can’t think of a better category to go and do that in, it brings it back to us racing together as a family of which I really enjoy racing in that environment.

“There’s a little bit of work to do on the car between now and Round 1 before we get on track to put it all back together.

“I want to do it to find my enjoyment and passion for racing again because the situation I was in as well as what we were doing, I was losing these.

“I think we’re more than capable of taking out the title, so that is the plan.”

Garland’s mission to succeed Joel Heinrich as series champion will begin at Mount Panorama on February 23-25, in support of the Supercars’ season-opening Thrifty Bathurst 500.
