THE annual April Fool’s Day tradition produced several beauties in the Australian motorsport sector this year.

V8 Sleuth gets in on the fun with a look at the best of the April 1 pranks.

A new look for DJR

Dick Johnson Racing is notorious for running similar liveries year-on-year so the sight of a revamped Shell V-Power Mustang always draws attention.

Renowned designer Peter Hughes did just that, releasing renders of DJR’s ‘new look’ for the end-of-month Perth SuperSprint.

As far as we know, it will in fact be the regular-season scheme which appears at Wanneroo Raceway.

A very late bloomer

Barry Rogers

Garry Rogers Motorsport took the chance to announce its newest driver signing, with team director Barry Rogers recruited for the Round 2 TCR Australia grid at Phillip Island aboard a Peugeot 308.

“After cutting some laps in an Excel earlier in the year, we discovered some hidden driving talent and a recent test day only confirmed it!” the team posted to social media.

“Valvoline will come on board to support Barry in his big debut in national racing!”

Enter the Abarth

The render of a Michael Clemente-driven Fiat 500 Abarth

TCR Australia is genuinely set to welcome the Lynk & Co marque at Phillip Island, but perhaps don’t read too much into its latest announcement about the addition of a new Fiat 500 Abarth.

Driver Michael Clemente, whose road car is an Abarth, joined in on the joke.

“I’ve always thought it had a magnificent chassis and when we started the search for a new car, I said to the team ‘I’ve got this little Fiat 500 that I have as a daily, it handles bloody brilliantly, why don’t we race one of these?’” the privateer was quoted as.
