Tickford title winner sold, makes track return

CAM Waters is today set to get behind the wheel of the FG X Falcon that scored Tickford Racing’s first and only Supercars Championship crown to date.

Having debuted in 2014 in FG specification, the upgraded FPR 1217 chassis dominated the 2015 campaign in the hands of Mark Winterbottom, who charged to the title.

‘Frosty’ took 13 race wins that season to underpin what remains the only drivers’ championship won by a team other than Triple Eight or Dick Johnson Racing in the past decade-and-a-half.

Tickford continued to race the car for a further six seasons across the main game and Super2, with Waters among its roll call having driven it during the back half of 2016.

The Campbellfield squad undertook a 12-month restoration project before placing FPR 1217 on the market late last year.

The car has since been snapped up at an undisclosed price by Adam Walton, who also owns an ex-Craig Lowndes FG Falcon being campaigned by Jamie Tilley in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series.

The famous Pepsi Max Ford Supercar is however due to venture out on track today at Winton Motor Raceway as part of a handover day, with Waters cutting laps.

Tickford has a further presence at Winton today with Thomas Randle and Declan Fraser there for rookie tests.

All four Tickford Gen3 Mustangs will complete full test days tomorrow.
