Triple Eight delaying Super2 team orders dilemma

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering will leave any potential thoughts about team orders until the final day of the Super2 season.

Triple Eight still has both its horses in the race, Declan Fraser holding the lead and Cameron Hill fourth.

Fraser clutched up to top the two qualifying sessions yesterday.

If he can convert pole in today’s race, he’ll knock at least Hill (165 points behind Fraser) and Tyler Everingham (171 behind) out of contention.

Fraser’s nearest two title rivals, Matt Payne and Zak Best, will start second and third respectively.

Team orders is rarely a consideration in second-tier motorsport, but it could cross Triple Eight’s minds for tomorrow if need be.

“We’ll get through (today) and see where we’re sitting as a team after that,” team co-owner Jess Dane told V8 Sleuth.

“Still having two drivers in the championship hunt is a very unique situation, especially in Super2 and we’re very fortunate to be in this position come the end of the year.

“We have got two fantastic drivers and a really strong team but no thoughts of the championship until we get through the Saturday race.”

For his part, Fraser added: “It’s a really tricky question.

“We’re all out there for our own personal benefit. Cam is still theoretically in with a chance to win the championship as well.

“I don’t want it to come to that anyway, if I’m going to go out and win a championship I don’t want to do it by the skin of my teeth, I want to make sure we’re there or thereabouts and actually having a good go.”

The first of two Super2 races starts at 1:55pm local time (2:25pm AEDT) today.
