‘Unreil’ collection of race and road cars set for a new home

CHAMPIONSHIP winners, iconic liveries and road car gems are all part of the ‘Unreil Collection’ going to auction this week.

The unique assortment of special racing and road cars being auctioned by Lloyds Auctions on Sunday January 29 features some impressive machines.

Included in the auction is the mighty Mustang GTA driven to three Australian Touring Car Championship wins by Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan in the 1960s.

The V8 Ford muscle car won the title in the last two years it was held as a single race – 1967 at Lakeside and 1968 at Warwick Farm – and the first year it was held over a series of races in 1969.

The restored Craven Mild Monaro HJ GTS Sports Sedan than Geoghegan drove in the 1970s is also up for grabs as too is the HQ Monaro Sports Sedan/touring car formerly raced by Bob Jane and John Harvey.

Supercars fans are catered for in the auction too, with an ex-Walkinshaw Andretti United Commodore ZB – restored to its Scott Pye 2018 Albert Park-winning livery – for sale along with a pair of Perkins Engineering-built Commodores, both originally built by David ‘Truckie’ Parsons.

Allan Moffat’s 1980 Federation Insurance Bathurst Falcon XD is up for grabs in addition to a range of Moffat replicas, while the last Torana XU-1 raced by Peter Brock – the yellow XU-1 he ran in the Biante Touring Car Series in 2004 that he and James Brock previously had used at Targa Tasmania – is also going under the hammer.

Kevin Waldock’s former Komatsu Falcon EF and the ex-Garry Rogers Commodore VL SV Gp A (the very same car crashed at Bathurst by John Andretti in 1988) are part of the auction, which also includes the Ron Hodgson Motors Torana XU-1 driven by Bob Morris and an A9X Holden Torana formerly raced by Warren Cullen.

A pair of Falcon Hardtop Group C Bathurst cars – the 1978 Bryan Byrt French/Brown XC (that started its life as Jim Richards’ XB GT) and the Bill O’Brien Everlast XC – will attract attention from Ford fans.

The auction also features a wide range of road cars, including a collection of ex-police cars and a rare A9X Torana built with a GMP&A body shell with just 475 kilometres on the odometer.

The full listing of all of the cars in the ‘Unreil Collection’ is viewable here.
