SHANE van Gisbergen has been voted Supercars’ most popular driver for a second consecutive year.
The Triple Eight star received the award at the VALO Adelaide 500, where he’s aiming to cap a title-winning season with yet more race wins.
“It’s pretty humbling,” said van Gisbergen of the award, which is voted on by fans via a poll on its official website.
“It’s pretty awesome to win it, so thanks to everyone who voted and likes the way we go racing.
“It’s pretty amazing to win this one. I’m not the most outgoing person I guess, but to have the respect of everyone, it certainly means a lot.”
Supercars has run a fan-voted most popular driver award since 2013.
Craig Lowndes won in each of the first four years before Scott McLaughlin took over his mantle with three consecutive accolades. It was not awarded in 2020.
The fan-voted best presented team award has meanwhile been won by Red Bull Ampol Racing, adding yet another success to its dominant year.
