VIDEO: How Formula Regional Oceania put Lawson on map

NEW Zealand sensation Liam Lawson has reflected on how what is now known as the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship changed his career.

At just 16 years of age, Lawson burst onto the scene in 2019 with a pair of wins at the Highlands Motorsport Park opener and went on to win the open-wheel series title.

Now entrenched in the Red Bull system, Lawson finished third overall in Formula 2 last year and is banging down the door for a world championship seat for 2024, perhaps with AlphaTauri.

Round 1 of the 2023 Formula Regional Oceania competition took place at Highlands across the weekend, with the three race wins split between Callum Hedge, James Penrose and David Morales.
