When Mark Larkham played in a rock band

MARK Larkham is a man of many talents, but did you know that playing drums was one of them?

Larko joined us recently to record a couple of episodes of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Repco, the first of which was released today.

The first part of his two-part chat with Aaron Noonan focused on his team’s first V8 Supercar, the radically-designed Mitre 10 Ford Falcon EF.

However, among the deep dive into the car’s design and the components that were ahead of their time, Larkham also revealed another nugget of gold.

He used to be in a band.

“Adam Perry has been with me most of my racing life,” Larkham told the V8 Sleuth Podcast.

“He was the best man at my wedding, we went to school together, played footy together (and) we played in a band together.

“We had a weekly gig at a place called the Three Sisters, a restaurant in Griffith. I think we might’ve got something like $180 for a Saturday night.

“It was just a great time in our lives. Adam and I, right to this day, remain best mates; he was with me the whole way through my career, in one capacity or another.”

And what did Larko play in the band?

“(I played) drums and I sang – could you believe it?”
