Whincup flags plan to drive on in 2024

THE first piece of the Triple Eight 2024 co-driver puzzle appears to be falling into place, with Jamie Whincup declaring his intention to continue behind the wheel.

Whincup has generally played the waiting game before locking himself in since shifting to co-driving; however, he has all but done so following his starring role in winning last month’s Sandown 500 with Broc Feeney.

V8 Sleuth put to Whincup that Triple Eight might have anywhere between zero and three co-drives available for next year, in asking whether they’ll look to move quickly given how the primary driver silly season has played out early.

Whincup responded: “We’ll probably look at that after Bathurst I reckon, on our co-drivers for next year.

“I believe I’ll still want to co-drive and we’d love to have SVG back if he’s available.”

If van Gisbergen is willing and available, between his NASCAR duties with Trackhouse Racing, that could leave Triple Eight with just one vacancy.

Triple Eight will have Feeney and Will Brown as its primaries next year and has re-signed Craig Lowndes to almost certainly again spearhead a Supercheap Auto wildcard.

Of the Banyo squad’s 2023 enduro roster, Richie Stanaway will depart to Grove Racing and Zane Goddard’s future is uncertain.

An intriguing co-driver silly season is set to play out after this week’s Repco Bathurst 1000, with Scott Pye, Todd Hazelwood and Declan Fraser in line to become key players in the market.
