Triple Eight, wildcard backer strike new deal

TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering has announced a key multi-year deal – but not the one many were anticipating.

While the wait continues for Will Brown to be confirmed as Shane van Gisbergen’s replacement from 2024 onwards, Triple Eight has trumpeted the extension of its partnership with Supercheap Auto.

The automotive retailer joined the Brisbane team in 2021 and has been particularly prominent with naming rights on a Repco Supercars Championship wildcard program ever since.

In 2021, that was for Broc Feeney/Russell Ingall. Last year, it was Declan Fraser/Craig Lowndes.

Lowndes has continued as the face of the wildcard this season – now joined by Zane Goddard – and is expected to be once more in 2024 pending his own renewal.

It should be noted a 2024 wildcard has not been specifically outlined as yet in the Triple Eight/Supercheap Auto announcement this morning.

“To have a brand so synonymous with motorsport want to continue their partnership with our team is incredible,” said Triple Eight team principal Jamie Whincup.

“Supercheap Auto shares a similar ethos to Triple Eight; invest in the future of motorsport and provide unbelievable experiences to our supporters by showcasing our incredible products.

“I want to thank Benjamin (Ward, Supercheap Auto managing director), his senior leadership team and the wider Supercheap Auto family for their continued support. I’m thrilled to see this super partnership continue.”

Triple Eight has half of its co-naming rights backing locked in for next season, with Ampol under contract until the end of 2024.

Red Bull is coming off-contract at season’s end, having last had a two-year extension announced in August 2021.
