Whincup willing to facilitate Chahda wildcard

TRIPLE Eight team principal Jamie Whincup has confirmed they are willing and able to supply a car to underpin Matt Chahda Motorsport’s 2024 Supercars wildcard campaign.

Triple Eight has four Gen3 Camaros in its possession: the two new-for-2024 cars being raced by Will Brown and Broc Feeney, its own wildcard which Cooper Murray will steer next month in Darwin, and a spare.

The spare is 888A-057, which Feeney drove to five race wins last season. The car which Shane van Gisbergen finished his full-time Supercars career in (888A-063) now belongs to Tony Quinn.

MCM boss Amin Chahda has indicated it will use a Triple Eight or Brad Jones Racing Camaro for its Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 cameos.

Whincup is happy to play ball – for the right price.

“We’ve got Broc’s car from last year available,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“It has been very, very handy for us, being able to use it for promotional activities and whatnot, but if Matt wanted a car for his wildcard entry, it’s available.

“If he wants it and wants to pay the right money for it, then it’s his.”

It’s unclear whether that would be a lease or purchase type of situation.

Matt Chahda will form one half of the MCM driver line-up, with the Albury team committed to running a Super2 up-and-comer alongside him.

MCM’s one prior Supercars Championship start came in the 2022 Bathurst 1000, where Chahda and Jaylyn Robotham combined for 18th.

Robotham has gone on to be based overseas, racing in series including GT World Challenge Asia. He has been signed by Brad Jones Racing to partner Bryce Fullwood in this year’s Supercars enduros.
