‘KATE’ will make a long-awaited return to Mount Panorama, 11 years after tasting victory in the Bathurst 1000.
Alternatively known as 888A-023, the chassis is the second-most successful in ATCC/Supercars Championship history.
In 70 race starts, it chalked up 50 podiums including 28 wins – one of which was the 2012 Bathurst 1000.
That result came in the hands of Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell.
The Holden VE II Commodore has not been back to Bathurst since that weekend.
Owned by Whincup, the Vodafone-livered car had previously been on display at The Bend Motorsport Park’s Welcome Centre.
While Dumbrell retired from Supercars racing five years ago, Whincup is still hunting a fifth Peter Brock Trophy – his last having come in 2012.
In addition to co-driving in the ‘1000’ with fellow 2023 Sandown 500 winner Broc Feeney, Whincup will steer ‘Kate’ around Mount Panorama on Saturday, October 7.
Dumbrell will then get his turn on-track, as part of 60th anniversary celebrations of the first Bathurst Great Race, on the Sunday.
‘Kate’ becomes the fourth classic car confirmed for the on-track demo, joining the 1993-winning VP Commodore which Larry Perkins will drive, the 2006-winning BA Falcon (Craig Lowndes), and the 1986 Peter Brock/Allan Moffat VK Commodore to be steered by James Brock.
More are expected to feature at the October 5-8 event.
