Young gun confirms Super2 swap

PORSCHE young gun Cooper Murray will move into the Dunlop Super2 Series next year at the wheel of an Eggleston Motorsport Commodore ZB.

The youngest race and round winner in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia history, Murray will join Kai Allen in the team’s Super2 line-up at the wheel of one of its ex-Team 18 Commodores.

It’s also expected that Cameron Crick will re-join the team for next year in a three-car line-up.

Murray, 21, who finished runner-up in the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship, says Supercars is where he wants to be.

“It’s going to be an exciting year in Super 2 with the ZBs and Mustangs being introduced to the category,” he says.

“I want to be in Supercars. And this is the next step of achieving that. Ben and Rachael (Eggleston) have helped many young drivers like Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown achieve that.

“I’m looking forward to working with the experienced team and putting in the work to get aquatinted with the cars and team to make sure we start our 2023 campaign strong at Newcastle for round one.”

Eggleston Motorsport co-owner and Team Manager Rachael Eggleston is equally excited to have the young gun in the team for 2023.

“Cooper is a proven race winner, his determination and speed is obvious and we have no doubt he is going to grab this opportunity with both hands to make sure he is on the pace early in the season,” she says.

“We have a history of bringing young talent into the sport and being a big part of their journey to get to them to their ultimate goal of being a main series driver.  We love nothing more than meeting drivers who share the same passion and drive that we do.

“Cooper was a stand out in a Porsche in recent years, and we are confident his ability will translate well to a Supercar and together with our experience we are quite sure he will make an impact early in the season.”

The Dunlop Super2 Series field continues to come together with Tickford Racing announcing a two-car program in the lead-up to the VALO Adelaide 500 and Walkinshaw Andretti United confirming a two-car program as well in recent weeks.

The opening round of the series will be in Newcastle on March 10-12.
