AIM Motorsport expands after buying second Mustang

AIM Motorsport is continuing its rise up the Dunlop Super2 ranks, opting to expand after acquiring another race-winning ex-Tickford Racing Ford Mustang Supercar.

The squad fielded Zane Morse in Super2 this year aboard the Gen2 Mustang which Cam Waters raced in 2021-22, as well as Ryan Gilroy in Super3 (initially in a Holden VF Commodore, then in a Nissan Altima).

AIM has now secured PRA 1722 – which is featured in a recently released book detailing every Tickford-built Supercar – from MW Motorsport.

PRA 1722 was Waters’ Monster Ford for seasons 2018-20, before being used by James Courtney and Thomas Randle in the final two years of the Gen2 era.

Jaylyn Robotham drove the Mustang for MWM in the 2023 Super2 season-opener in Newcastle, and that remains the car’s last competitive outing.

Morse will return with AIM in 2024, out to build on a campaign in which he collected a round podium in Townsville and contended for victory at Bathurst, and he’s set to have a Super2 teammate for company.

“We’re just building and building and getting that momentum,” Andre Morse, who co-owns AIM with Ian Turner, told V8 Sleuth.

“And with the engineering line-up we have got coming on, we’re really trying to get the right driver.

“I don’t care if Zane is not winning if my other driver is winning; I want them both fighting for positions, so I’m looking for a quality driver.”

Shifting to a two-car model will help AIM take on the bigger teams such as Super2 champions Eggleston Motorsport, Morse Sr believes.

“Running around with Zane on his own for data is just too hard against these teams that have massive data pools, so by running a second car, we hope to build our data to help our drivers,” he said, directing prospective drivers to contact him on 0411 449 106.

The 2024 season will open at Mount Panorama on February 23-25.
