Bend stopover for US-bound Bathurst winner

THE Ford Mustang which dominated the 2019 Supercars Championship has lobbed at Tailem Bend ahead of this weekend’s OTR SuperSprint.

DJRTP06 was the car which powered Scott McLaughlin to 18 race wins – including victory in the Bathurst 1000 – en route to his second title.

Its racing life met an inglorious end in the form of a brutal crash at the 2019 Gold Coast 600, forever leaving it with a 72 percent winning strike rate (18 from 25).

Since restored, the car has arrived at The Bend as part of celebrations regarding the venue’s renaming to Shell V-Power Motorsport Park.

The car will spend the next several days in the circuit’s Welcome Centre before being shipped off to the United States to take up residence in the Penske Racing Museum in Arizona.

“We are forever trying to blow fans and visitors of the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park away and it is a privilege to host this iconic car in our Welcome Centre, which is truly the epicentre of our venue,” said The Bend CEO Alistair MacDonald.

Round 8 of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship takes place this weekend at The Bend, with main game track action starting Saturday.
