BRT not giving up on 2024 expansion

THE Blanchard Racing Team is pressing on with plans to expand its main game operation despite Supercars indicating it’s unlikely to release its 26th Teams Racing Charter for 2024.

V8 Sleuth has verified that is indeed Supercars’ current stance on the matter, meaning there’s set to again be 25 regular entries next season.

Limited staffing and sponsorship options have been cited as counterpoints against adding another full-time car onto the grid.

An additional TRC would also come with a further $650,000 annual outlay for Supercars owner RACE, in line with its contractual commitment to each licence holder.

Boost Mobile founder Peter Adderton has at stages lobbied for the 26th TRC to come off the shelf, but it was BRT who appeared to have the inside running.

BRT boss Tim Blanchard has made no secret of his desire to move from a one-car model to two, but he may now need to explore acquiring a TRC that’s already on the grid in order to do so.

“Our plan, like I’ve said for the last few months, has been to move to two cars as soon as possible,” Blanchard told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s still May, there’s still a bit to play out, but our intention is to move to two cars as soon as possible.

“Hopefully that’s next year, but obviously there’s a number of things that are out of our control.

“But we’re still aiming and preparing towards being a two-car team next year.”

BRT is this year running a Super2 program for the first time, as an initial step towards running two main game Gen3 Mustangs.
