DJR to conduct further aero parity testing

SUPERCARS will complete further aero testing tomorrow with Ford homologation team Dick Johnson Racing at Queensland Raceway.

Efforts to fix the parity saga have ramped up this week following confirmation of a results trigger being hit in the final race of the Darwin Triple Crown.

Review week began with an eight-hour engineering meeting on Monday involving key figures including from both homologation teams (the other being Triple Eight Race Engineering on behalf of General Motors/Chevrolet).

Supercars then took the opportunity to run Cam Waters in a Tickford Racing Mustang at Winton Motor Raceway on Tuesday.

That came about after wet weather washed out a rookie test for Tickford duo Thomas Randle and Declan Fraser, for which Waters was attending in a supporting role.

For what it’s worth, Waters has been the most outspoken Ford driver this year on the topic of Gen3 parity.

Work in the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) area has also been unfolding in the United Kingdom.

The next step is DJR’s outing at QR, using its race cars as opposed to a prototype.

V8 Sleuth understands various different aerodynamic options and configurations were trialled at Winton and a similar type of program is tipped for QR to finalise a direction.

A swift course of action is required if changes are to be made in time for next week’s NTI Townsville 500 (July 7-9).

Helping speed up that process is the fact that once Supercars’ head of motorsport Adrian Burgess and the two homologation teams determine an official recommendation, it does not need to go through board/Commission level for approval.

Chevrolet has won 14 successive races.

There will also be a Camaro tomorrow at QR, with Matt Stone Racing’s Cameron Hill to use a rookie test.

Any comparative work between the Camaro and updated Mustang however is set to be completed via CFD.
