Supercars confirms imminent parity adjustment

SUPERCARS has confirmed it is working on a parity adjustment in line with its on-track performance review processes.

While the core of technical parity is aimed to be achieved through specific testing away from race meetings, the championship does have a detailed system in place as a safety net if things are not stacking up in reality.

A mid-season review has now been triggered.

“The parity review system is designed to identify and evaluate any imbalances among the competing models,” a Supercars statement read.

“It works using the analysis of lap times across a number of races to determine whether a disparity exists.

“The threshold to trigger a review must be achieved consistently over either five consecutive races or five of eight championship races. These conditions were met following the final race in Darwin.”

The review will see recommendations made swiftly and very likely implemented in time for Round 6 in Townsville.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard offered further explanation.

“The parity review system has been a foundation of the parity assessment throughout the championship over many years,” he said.

“Now that a review has been triggered, we have commenced the nominated process.

“Supercars have met and are working with both homologating teams to formulate appropriate recommendations for a parity adjustment.”

Those homologation teams are Dick Johnson Racing (Ford) and Triple Eight Race Engineering (Chevrolet).

Camaros have been first across the line in all 15 races this season.

Race 2 of the Darwin Triple Crown was just the second time in ATCC/Supercars Championship history that a single manufacturer occupied the top nine finishing positions.

There is little more than a fortnight before the NTI Townsville 500 kicks off (July 7-9).
