Drive to Survive-style Supercars show in the works

A NEW Supercars reality show modelled on Formula 1’s ultra-successful Drive to Survive Netflix series is in the works.

As revealed on today’s 50th episode of the Castrol Motorsport News Podcast, filming for a pilot episode began at last month’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

Independent production company Dreamchaser has been engaged for the project, which Supercars hopes will help it reach new audiences.

It’s expected that the pilot will be shopped to various TV networks and streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon and Stan, before the green light is given to a full series.

PODCAST: Is reality TV key to Supercars’ growth?

Since its launch in 2019 Drive to Survive has been the catalyst for an explosion in Formula 1’s popularity, drawing in new fans with its captivating story telling.

Supercars has also commissioned fly-on-the-wall type documentary series over recent years under the ‘Inside Line’ name.

Each though has focused on a single team, following Erebus Motorsport through 2019, Walkinshaw Andretti United in 2020 and Triple Eight in 2021.

They were produced by Supercars Media, AME and Neil Crompton’s AirTime Media respectively and broadcast by Supercars’ existing media partner Fox Sports.

This latest offering promises to be significantly different, with a variety of drivers and team personnel interviewed in secret at Bathurst last month for the pilot episode.

Production house Dreamchaser was launched earlier this year by former Nine Entertainment CEO Hugh Marks and Endemol Shine Australia co-founder Carl Fennessy.

Endemol Shine is behind a number of Australia’s most popular reality programs including Masterchef, Survivor, Big Brother, Married at First Sight and Beauty and the Geek.
