Ex-Stone Brothers Falcon back on track in V8 Touring Cars

FORMER Kumho V8 Touring Car Series winner Terry Wyhoon and his Image Racing team are returning to compete in the category for ex-V8 Supercars this weekend.

Wyhoon’s team will run one of its ex-Stone Brothers Racing Falcon FGs in this weekend’s opening round at Phillip Island for Victorian Hyundai Excel racer Antonio Molluso.

Molluso, who recently tested the car at Phillip Island, will drive the #50 Falcon FG with backing from Burson Auto Parts.

The Falcon he’ll step behind the wheel of was originally raced in the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship by Tim Slade in Lucky 7 colours.

It was the last Project Blueprint-era Falcon V8 Supercar built by Stone Brothers Racing.

The car – chassis SBR FG05 – last raced in August 2022 at Sandown with Kiwi Jordan Michels behind the wheel in the Super3 Series.

Reef McCarthy raced it in the 2021 Super3 Series run by Image Racing and won the final race of the season at Bathurst that December.

This weekend’s opening round of the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series is the first time the category has run under its original banner since 2018.

Since 2019 it was run under the Super3 Series banner owned by Supercars, which has carried on running Super3 alongside Super2 this year, the former for older model Car of the Future-era Supercars and the latter for Gen2 ZB Commodores and Mustang GTs.

V8 Sleuth is the Official Media Partner of the 2023 Kumho V8 Touring Car Series, which will be televised as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on Stan Sport.

Phillip Island is the first of five rounds in the 2023 series with further stops on the calendar to be made at Winton, Queensland Raceway, Sandown and Bathurst.
