AMID the drama which broke out during the Melbourne SuperSprint, a significant Supercars Championship record was eclipsed.
Broc Feeney last year narrowly missed out on becoming the youngest ever winner of a championship race, his victory at the Adelaide 500 putting him second only to Scott McLaughlin.
Feeney did however grab his own piece of history at Albert Park, clinching the mantle of the championship’s youngest polesitter of all time.
Aged 20 years and 166 days, the Triple Eight Race Engineering driver took pole for the fourth and final race of Round 2.
In doing so, he knocked Zak Best off top spot.
Best spectacularly etched his place in history when he qualified fastest as a Tickford Racing wildcard at The Bend.
Although somewhat tainted by a tyre batch controversy, that saw Best beat McLaughlin’s previous marker by eight days.
Feeney now has both of them covered.
What’s more, he converted that pole position at Albert Park into his second main game race win.
McLaughlin remains the youngest multiple championship race winner though, his second win coming at the 2013 Ipswich 360 when he was aged 20 years and 48 days.
