FORD’s 2000 horsepower electric SuperVan 4.2 has lapped Mount Panorama in 1:56.7647s on Sunday morning at the Thrifty Bathurst 500.
The time was set by driver Romain Dumas during the last in a series of track sessions over the two-week Bathurst SuperFest.
It hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the van, with a global effort – including input from Supercars squad Dick Johnson Racing – required to solve steering issues.
Interference between the car’s electric motors and the timing system meant the SuperVan’s laps were manually timed.
Its best lap fell just short of the 1:56.6054s set by Jules Gounon in an unrestricted Mercedes-AMG GT3 at last weekend’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
The SuperVan is also set to appear at the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival (March 16-17) and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix (March 21-24).
