Formula 1 cars invited for Bathurst blast

FANS could see Formula 1 machinery whizzing around Mount Panorama for the second time in 2023 per a new addition to the Bathurst International.

The November 10-12 event is adding an Open Wheel ‘Cavalcade’, whereby invited high-profile cars will run in six, 20-minute demonstration sessions.

Up to 10 cars could take part, potentially including classic or modern F1 cars, IndyCars, Formula Renault 3.5 V8s and more, plus an S5000 presence. Nominations are being accepted via email at events@australianracinggroup.com.

It follows spectators at the Bathurst 12 Hour in February being treated to a 2011-spec Red Bull RB7 cutting laps in the hands of New Zealand star Liam Lawson.

Event communications explained: “Management of the number of cars, requirements around vehicle safety and driver ability will be part of the selection process to ensure the safest and most enjoyable outcomes for competitors and fans alike.

“All cars will be housed in dedicated garages in the Mount Panorama pit lane building, with behind-the-scenes access to the garage to all ticketholders planned as part of the event.”

The Open Wheel Cavalcade adds to an increasing international feel to the Bathurst International, which will double as the penultimate round of the inaugural Kumho TCR World Tour.

Touring Car Masters New Zealand competitors are also set to join the Aussie TCM field, making for a trans-Tasman showdown.
